The soft, calm winds of spring are now in the air and with that, the intensity of the sun is increasing. As it gets hotter, the humidity will increase and so will sweating and discomfort. A lot of people ditch wearing makeup during these hot, sweaty months because they are uncomfortable or in fear of it presenting some skin problems. That kind of extreme measure is not necessary.

If you are someone who loves wearing and experimenting with makeup, you do not have to give it up just because of a little bit of heat, humidity, or sun. There are ways you can have beautiful summer looks without it melting from your face. Here are a few tips you can follow to make sure you can have flawless makeup throughout the day without it adversely affecting you.

Hydration and Sunscreen

A good skin is very important for the application of even makeup. The most important part of a skincare routine is hydration. People tend to skip hydrating products like moisturizer during the summer months because it makes their skin oily. This is a terrible mistake as it causes breakouts, lines appear on the skin faster, and inflammation increases which makes makeup look uneven and cakey. If you have oily skin, try to go for mattifying moisturizers that can be very easily bought online even if they are not very common in stores.

A moisturizer makes your pores look small so that the makeup looks even and less makeup is needed to cover up all the texture.

Sunscreen is the next most important product you need for good makeup. Sunscreen helps reduce hyperpigmentation, dark spots and of course prevents tan. Putting makeup on a tan, sunburn face is not fun so applying an SPF 30 every two hours is essential. If you think that sunscreen makes your skin oily and sweaty, you can easily find matte sunscreens that don’t let oil shine through. Or better yet, you can apply sunscreen powder. This will protect your face from the harmful UV rays of the sun just as much as a cream while also controlling the oil from the skin.

Light Makeup

Soft, light makeup is the way to go when it comes to a summer makeup look. For light makeup, you have to understand which products are essential and which ones you can skip without a problem. First, a good primer is required which can seal your pores and can help your makeup stay throughout the day without any reapplication. You can skip foundation during the summer.

A full-coverage foundation is very heavy and might melt from the face. Instead, you can use a tinted moisturizer or a light BB cream or CC cream to even out the skin tone. A very light layer of a matte bronzer to sculpt the cheekbones and jawline should be enough. A soft layer of peach or coral shade of blush on the apple of the cheeks and tip of the nose should give color to the skin while also maintaining the soft makeup look. Using a light gold or rose gold highlight on the cheekbone, cupid bone, and nose tip will make your skin glow. If you are a fan of subtle lipstick shades, a pink tone nude or a light brown tone nude should look great with this look.

However, you can also experiment with lipstick and go bold. Try using matte lipsticks as they tend to stay longer. For eyes, a simple cat-eye with mascara is enough if you are going to work but you can try different things with colors as well. An eye primer is needed before applying the eyeshadow so that it stays for a longer time. After completing the makeup look and applying sunscreen, setting spray is a must. This is another layer of protection that will seal the makeup so that it stays the whole day.

Powder, Not Cream

For summer, it is better if all cream products are switched out for powder products. Compact foundation powder is a very common makeup item that can be used instead of using a heavy foundation liquid. Even if you are using a cream foundation or skin tint, bake it for a long time with a setting powder. Similarly, contour or bronzer powders should be used instead of the usual contour sticks or creams. Powdered blushes are rather common and should be used instead of cream, colored tint.

Powdered highlighters are preferable to liquid highlighters or stick highlighters. The place where shininess is most common, the nose and forehead area which is called the ‘t-zone’. Dabbing it with some blotting paper or wet wipes and reapplying powder should reduce the shininess a lot. Carrying a little bit of your setting powder in an empty compact and applying it every time you reapply sunscreen will help a lot with controlling oil and sweat.

Waterproof Formulas

Waterproof makeup items are the holy grail for summer. Most of your favorite face makeup items are available in waterproof formulas. Applying these items will prevent melting of the makeup with just a little bit of sweat. It is essential to find a good eyeliner and mascara which is waterproof. They are moderately available in the markets so finding a good one might be tough but so worth it. All eye products should be waterproof because they are the darkest products and are easily visible if they melt. After all, nobody likes black patches and runny steaks all over the skin.

Colors

Summer is the best time to experiment and try out new, bold, fun colors. Applying dark, bold lipsticks is a great way to add a pop to the face. Similarly, try to have fun with different colorful and bold eyeshadow looks, even if you prefer subtlety.

Shades of colors like bright pink, red, and orange for eyeshadow are great for any summer outing or vacation. If you follow these simple tips, you will look as beautiful as ever and not face any problems with your makeup during the summer.
